2027: WUFIPA Declares Igbos Will Not Back Goodluck Jonathan, Calls For Reciprocity For Peter Obi
ANAMBRA STATE_The Worldwide United Forum for Igbo Patriots and Aborigines (WUFIPA) has officially responded to ongoing media speculations regarding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s intent to contest the 2027 presidential election under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
In a strongly worded statement, the WUFIPA Organization characterized any such bid by Dr Jonathan as a profound betrayal of the Igbo people, who stood as his most loyal political allies during his previous administration.
A Historic Sacrifice By Igbos in 2015
WUFIPA emphasizes that the Igbo nation bore the brunt of the political fallout during the 2015 general elections. The Organization recalls the Igbos faced unprecedented threats, and physical danger due to their unwavering support for Jonathan’s re-election in 2015. Massive economic losses were sustained, with thousands of Igbos losing goods and properties worth billions of Naira in Lagos and across various states in the north.
The risk of mass violence was narrowly averted only by Dr Jonathan’s decision to concede defeat, which spared the Igbo communities from targeted attacks.
Demand For Reciprocity
The WUFIPA Organization views Dr. Jonathan’s rumored aspirations as a mark of ingratitude to Igbos. The Organization asserts that rather than seeking a return to power, Dr. Jonathan should be the first to champion the cause of an Igbo presidency in 2027.
“It’s a matter of record that the Igbos sacrificed their safety and economic stability for Dr. Jonathan. We now expect him to reciprocate that historic support by backing a credible Igbo candidate, specifically Mr. Peter Obi, who has already indicated interest in the 2027 race”, says Rev. Dr. ChukwudireObi.
Final Warning Against Betrayal
WUFIPA maintains that the Igbos will not be taken for granted again in the 2027 political cycle. Supporting any candidate other than a qualified Igbo son-particularly after the loyalty shown to the Jonathan administration -would be viewed as a “Great Betrayal” of the Igbo tribe.
The WUFIPA Organization calls on Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to act as a statesman and prioritize the equity and unity of the nation by stepping aside for the Southeast.
